Our Gardening Gems
The Gardening Gems began in November 2021 with a group of residents interested in establishing a vegetable garden.
An approach was made to GemLife regarding the use of the garden beds in the north-eastern corner of the village, with a request for funds to purchase various items to get started. Ben Livingstone, General Manager of GemLife, approved funds, allowing an enthusiastic, knowledgeable group to start work.
The group has met twice monthly, either in the garden or in the Pavilion, depending on whether we were planting or planning. We've had occasional morning teas and also a lunch to celebrate the successful harvesting of our produce, which Ben Livingstone attended, expressing his delight with our progress!
Residents contribute to further purchases of seedlings, etc by donating funds when they pick produce from our garden. Members of the group contribute their time and energy to ensure the garden flourishes. They prepare the soil, mulch, plant seeds and seedlings, fertilise, water and weed to ensure success.
